MacBook repair at component level: MacBook Pro and MacBook Air of any generation, on Intel and Apple processors. The faulty circuit is located and restored on the board itself — under a microscope, with proper measuring and soldering equipment. Replacing the whole board stays a last resort.

What brings MacBooks in: spilled liquid, drops, dust and overheating, a failed component on the logic board. Below is what I do and what people come with.

This is not the full list — every MacBook can have its own faults, so a check on the bench matters.

A subject of its own is Flexgate: the lid of a MacBook Pro from 2016 onwards carries four flex cables. Two of them are data cables, and those wear through from opening and closing the lid. Common MacBook Pro and MacBook Air faults

• The MacBook won’t turn on at all.
• The MacBook turns on but there is no picture.
• The MacBook shuts down while the system is booting.
• A folder with a blinking question mark in the middle of the screen.
• macOS won’t boot or takes far too long.
• Liquid was spilled on the computer.
• The MacBook is slow or freezes during work.
• Kernel panic: the system says you need to restart your computer.
• Some keys don’t work, or type two or three characters per press.
• The Touch Bar doesn’t work or blinks.
• The cursor runs uncontrollably across the screen.
• The MacBook won’t charge or doesn’t hold a charge.
• Spotlights along the bottom of the screen — sometimes or all the time.
• Opening the lid at a wide angle brings up spotlights or makes the picture disappear.
• Lines and distorted colours when opening or moving the lid.
• The screen flickers.
• The screen is cracked or part of the picture is missing.
• The camera works on and off.
• The fan is noisy or spins too fast.
• The MacBook runs very hot.
• A USB or USB-C port doesn’t work or has bad contact.
